Sometimes people believe that attitudes, refers more to a negative response to any situation. How wrong that is! We have both the negative and positive attitudes. However the essence of this article is to write about how to develop a good and positive attitude that would stand the test of time, and how one can consciously change the attitude. Also I would be sharing how to maintain a positive attitude, and circumstances that threaten attitude formations.
But before we go further, lets take a closer look at attitudes. What is an attitude? Attitudes simply means a tendency or predisposition of an organism or individual to respond to a stimuli in a specific manner. Attitudes emanate from within, it can only be seen through the actions of a person. Every event and encounter directly or indirectly impacts on how lives. We should be able to walk away with a better understanding of the social processes and the values that would make us better on in life.
Through our attitudes we
have a clear picture of our thoughts, values, emotions, beliefs, norms and
mores depending on our level of interaction in our environment.
A positive attitude is one that is
enduring, warm, accommodating and has room to improvements or corrections. How
we interpret different social interactions and communication, determines to a
large extent our level of exposure and enlightenment. That being said, we
should strive to understand people better. This is because it normally serves as
a springboard for our analysis of their behavior and ultimately influences our
attitude.
Positive
Attitudinal Change
We can change our attitudes by consciously
evaluating our thoughts, and how we interpret different stimuli. This can not
be achieved immediately, but through a deliberate effort to control a respond
in any situation.
We can also induce change in our attitudes,
by opening up to new information and knowledge. This is by reading articles,
books and magazines that will broaden our horizons and watching documentaries
and TV programmes for enlightenment.
Maintaining
a positive attitude.
We should always try to make excuses for an
individual’s shortcomings, that way we ease ourselves of the pain of any
inappropriate behavior or action that comes in our direction. For instance
saying “oh! I guess he woke up on a bad day, just let him be”
Consistency is the watch word here! Our
thought process and values should always be guided against an external factor
or source that may try to disrupt our predisposition to situations.
We can maintain our attitudes by refusing
to accept information that negates our beliefs and values. And by belonging to
a social group that would enhance our orientation.
Conclusion:
It can therefore be inferred, that
developing a positive attitude is possible and achievable. It’s a matter of
persistence, on how we choose to react to any situation. Always try to see the
best in others, and make allowances for shortcomings that are not detrimental
to our wellbeing.
It is important to maintain a positive
attitude, because it determines our level of organization and development.
